Counselling Psychology – Careers in Psychology

What is Counselling Psychology?

Counselling Psychology is a branch of psychology which is not too dissimilar to clinical psychology, and deals with emotional, social, work, school & physical health concerns across the lifespan with regards to families, groups or organizations. Counselling psychologists help people with physical, emotional & mental health issues improve their sense of well‐being, alleviate feelings of distress & resolve crises.

However, unlike clinical psychology, counselling psychologists are not trained in managing severe pathologies and mental illnesses, but rather work with relatively healthier patients in relieving relationship, career, substance abuse, adjustment related issues, etc. The diagnosis & assessment that counselling psychologists provide may also NOT be permissible with regard to government documents.
