Have you been wondering what it’s like to make the shift to Cloth pads & liners from disposable ones? Well, we are here to help.
There are many aspects that you might want to consider when you make the switch. Here are some that we felt were important.
-
The cloth pads are softer on the skin as they are mostly cotton-based, more comfortable and might help you if your vulva is sensitive and tends to get itchy.
BONUS : No plastic Rubbing against your skin. -
You produce significantly less amounts of waste as a lifetimes use of disposable pads can mean almost 150kgs of waste per person ! To put things in perspective, 1 disposable pad has the same amount of plastic as almost 4 plastic bags.
-
You save A LOT of money. If you spend approximately Rs. 70 on pads every month (+ another Rs. 90, if use pantyliners), that’s almost Rs. 42,00-9,600 in 5 years ! But with reusable cloth pads require you to spend approximately Rs. 1500-2000, for pads/liners that you can use for upto 5 years.
-
You can get a variety of colours & sizes, like with disposable pads.
Furthermore, you may also notice some brands offer pads/liner with PUL, which is an additional leakproof layer. If you are buying for daily discharge, to use with tampons or menstrual cups, “PUL” might not be needed, however, depending on the day of your cycle & flow, choose according to your own comfort. -
Quicker Absorption, means you won’t have to deal with that uncomfortable wet feeling that one does with disposable pads.
There are also some aspects that might take some extra effort, but have been worth it for us.
-
They might move around a bit, if it does not fit well in the underwear because it’s secured with a button on the wings & not directly stuck on like a disposable.
-
The liners/pads require some soaking, and might need to be either machine or hand washed.
-
They do take some time to dry, but this can be managed if you buy an appropriate number of pads for your cycle. You might also have to dry them in the sun.
We’ve tried a number of items from Ecofemme & Shomota. Our experience with these particular brands have been wonderful.
The pads & liners come packaged in recyclable materials & the delivery is fast; the items themselves are economical.
Ecofemme packaging is not as discrete as Shomota, if that is something you might be looking for. Moreover, Ecofemme sends a informative brochure telling you about the maintenance of your pads, as well as other interesting factoids.
Some other brands you can check out are Uger, Hygiene & you, Jaioni.
