Hope you all had a good & easy start to 2019. Even though we encouraged you to Set Intentions last month, it’s also important to remember to continue working on them. And always remember that discovering ourselves is a lifelong ongoing process so don’t be afraid to add more to that intent list.
February, for a lot of us, can a be a mix bag of emotions… it can make us feel happy and loved, or sad and lonely, or even stressed that we are now well into the new year. And this month, with Valentine’s around the corner, we want to try and do things a bit differently… Instead of giving all our love to those around us, we want you all to direct the love inwards. To not seek validation from outside, but work on manifesting it on the inside.
Here’s what we have in store for you this month ~
Self care
Over the last few years we’ve been bombarded with information about self-care, be it activities or it’s importance. We understand now, more than ever, that practising self-care can not only be improve our health and productivity, but also improve our relationships as well as how we relate to others in general. And what better time to start, than in a month that is all about Love. So, we decided to compile some self-care activities that we indulge in, in time of need, to help you with ideas to jump start the process. You can find it here.
Positive Self-Talk
Another area that a lot of us struggle with is keeping that ‘voice in our heads’ positive & supportive. Talking to ourselves negatively can not only make us feel crappy & defeated but also worsen mental health & motivation to deal with difficulties. Most of our internal dialogue tends to tell us that we’ve failed, we can never do anything right, and on & on, slowly lowering our self-esteem & confidence. And an important aspect of self love is to be aware of how we talk to ourselves, to be our own cheerleader, and that is exactly what we’ll talk about and learn (and hopefully practice successfully) in the coming weeks.
Identifying & Labelling Emotions
A part of being human, or rather being higher up on the evolutionary ladder is that we are able to feel a large variety of complex emotions, but when it comes to identifying & expressing what we might be feeling, we stumble, get stuck, because we have limited emotional vocabulary, and most of these words don’t even do justice to the complexity of what we might be feeling. Not being able to correctly label our emotions doesn’t just hinder how well we convey our emotions, but also how we control or regulate them. For example, we all feel happiness differently with different people, in different situations and in varying degrees, so is it accurate to just label all those differences as ‘happiness’? It’s like calling all the different shades of yellow, yellow. It takes away uniqueness from the emotion.
And even though this is long process, it’s never too late to start.
It’s time we put in effort to love and understand ourselves, just as we do for the ones that matter to us.
It’s time we be our own Valentine.
